This World Is Not Your Home, Learn Why
What is the World in Scripture?
New Testament: Greek (Kosmos) – The world, universe; worldly affairs; the inhabitants of the world; adornment.
Old Testament: Hebrew (‘erets) – whole earth (as opposed to a part); earth (as opposed to heaven); earth (inhabitants)
In the Old Testament, most commonly the word world was used to show the sphere (earth) and also the inhabitable parts of the earth. The context it’s used in makes the meaning easily known.
In the New Testament, the context clearly reveals the meaning.
The study of God’s Holy scripture is a fascinating and exhilarating journey. One, that for the hungry, their stomach will never be filled, and their thirst unquenchable. It excites the spirit and satisfies the soul. You’ll meet God along the way, and He will take the journey with you. After all, He knows the way, He’s been there, He is there. -ktc
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15.
Is the Kingdom of God of the World?
John 18:33-38 (READ CONTEXT)
Jesus confirms His Kingdom is not of this world, but beyond our sight.
- 36 – Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”

Who Rules the World?
Satan Comes Before God
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. 7 The LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Satan answered the LORD and said, “From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.”
Many Christians believe God rules the world, even though Jesus says differently in John 12:27-36 (READ CONTEXT).
In v. 31, Jesus states, “Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.”
God is Light – 1 John 1:1-10 (READ CONTEXT)
5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
1 John 5:19 (READ CONTEXT)

Greek New Testament – οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐσμεν, καὶ ὁ κόσμος ὅλος ἐν τῷ πονηρῷ κεῖmαι.

Keimai – a) to be (by God’s intent) set, i.e. destined, appointed b) of laws, to be made, laid down c) lies in the power of the evil one, i.e. is held in subjection by the devil
The World Hates Righteousness!
John 15:18-19 (READ CONTEXT)
18 “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.”
Hate (miseo’ – mis-eh’-o) properly, to detest (on a comparative basis); hence, denounce; to love someone or something less than someone (something) else, i.e. to renounce one choice in favor of another. publicly declare to be wrong or evil. Depending on the context, this could equal blasphemy.
In John 15:18-19 miseo’ means denounce. In the following verse Luke 14:26 in means to (love less). When the word hate is used in scripture, as with many other words, the context will show the definition.
Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.
Romans 8:5-8 (READ CONTEXT)
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
Separate From The World
1 John 2:15-17 (READ CONTEXT)
15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God continues to live forever.
John 17:13-21 (READ CONTEXT)
Jesus prays for His disciples.
20 “I am not asking on behalf of these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word, 21 that they may all be one; just as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 12:46-48 (READ CONTEXT)
46 I have come as Light into the world, so that no one who believes in Me will remain in darkness. 47 If anyone hears My teachings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 The one who rejects Me and does not accept My teachings has one who judges him: the word which I spoke. That will judge him on the last day.
Romans 12:1-2 (READ CONTEXT)
12 Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
- 2 the word “world” in the Greek is “Aion” (transliterated) English pronunciation (aye-own). The word has a similar meaning as kosmos based on the context. In this context it’s best defined as: a space of time, an age. It’s used to indicate, an age, a cycle (of time), especially of the present age as contrasted with the future age, and of one of a series of ages stretching to infinity.
The World is Hostility Toward God!
4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
Hostility/Enemy (Echthra – ekh’-thrah) properly, enemy (hatred, hostility); enmity.
What A Friend We Have In Jesus!
9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
Don’t Hate The World
Don’t hate the world (the earth) or the things In the world (God’s amazingly beautiful creation), but hate the things God hates in the world. Hate what the world stands for in community, culture, government, and the wickedness therein.
Our Treasures are in Heaven.
Matthew 6:19-20 (READ CONTEXT)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;
Where’s Your Ambassadorship?
I encourage each of us to always remember that we’re ambassadors for the life we choose. It’s not something we can escape, we represent the realm in which you live. We make our choice obvious based on the fruit we bear. The origin of the fruit is easily distinguishable between the two choices. 1) Life in Christ. The fruit of righteousness will have the appearance, texture, and taste of the life lived by Jesus, and obedience to God’s will. 2) Life in the World. The fruit of the world looks rotten. Inside its decaying, it emits a putrid odor, and its flavor is rancid.
